Garcia closer to Tiger The 28-year-old sank a seven-foot birdie putt from the fringe of the 18th green on the second play-off hole to win his second European Tour title in three weeks and the 19th professional tournament of his career.
“I feel great…. I’m just so proud to win and reach number two in the world,” Garcia said.
“I’ve never been this close to number one. It’s exciting,” Garcia said, adding his next goal was to win a Major and possibly surpass Woods.
For Wilson, the play-off loss meant he was consigned to his eighth runner-up finish on the European Tour without ever having won a tournament. “It’s just getting to a stage where second is just not good enough anymore… It’s about time I took my chance,” Wilson said.
However, his second place means he will rise inside the world’s top 50.
“He’s going to win soon. He’s playing too good not to win. He’ll be fine,” Garcia said.
